Do you know moon has many Flavors? — Just Life Trends
We can see a full moon when the the side of the moon which is faced to earth fully light up by the sun. There are many flavors of full moon faces such as Blood moons, Super moons, Blue moons, and Harvest moons and others.
But Why?
Sometimes, we can see our moon shining with red colour. Other times, the Moon may appear in larger than before. However, moon can not change it’s size or colour physically. These are changes in positions related to the Sun and Earth.
What are the major flavors?
Blood Moon
The reason for calling this phenomena is based on the red color. This is happening during a total lunar eclipse. During an total lunar eclipse moon comes to between sun and the earth. Then moon hide by the shadow of earth
When this happens, from the edges of the Earth’s atmosphere light only reaches to the moon surface. The earth atmosphere absorb most of blue colour from sunlight and release red colour. The remaining red light reflects onto the Moon’s surface by making the Moon appear as red.
Not only that, sometimes we use the term blood moon for a Moon that appears reddish because of tiny particles like dust in the sky.
Super moon
A “super moon” is the moon appear larger-than-usual Moon in our night sky. It looks huge because it’s a bit close to the Earth. This is actually a nickname for what astronomers describe a moon that is full and at its closest point in its orbit around Earth.
Blue Moon
It is common to say “Once in a blue moon …” when we talking about something rare. So this is not because of colour of blue. Actually blue moon is no different than our actual regular full moon.
When you hear someone say, “Once in a blue moon …” you know they are talking about something rare. A blue moon is not blue in color. In fact, a blue moon does not look any different than a regular, monthly full moon.
So the blue moon is an incident when we see an extra full moon within a month. Usually this is happening once in every two and half years.
Harvest Moon
We call “harvest moon” to the fully, bright Moon that we can see start of the autumn. Few centuries ago farmers harvest their crops by the light the Moon.
